BAMW is short for A Business Approach to Marketing Your Work. That's the title of my marketing e-book for freelance writers and editors. I needed a catchy abbreviation, and I thought first of BAM, but Emeril already has dibs on that. Then, how about BMW? No, an auto company has that. So---BAMW it is.
A little history is in order, I think. Last year, I facilitated an online course on marketing for The Christian PEN (http://www.thechristianpen.com/). In six weeks, participants learned to use the marketing mix concept which is taught in all beginning marketing courses. The mix consists of the Four P's: Product, Promotion, Place, Price. The P's are a great way to organize your marketing plan and/or to develop your product. For the Christian writer/editor, there is a fifth P, and that's Prayer. The participants in the course all said they had a better handle of what marketing is all about after working their way through my course.
Next, I organized the course material into an e-book and offered it for sale on my Web site, http://www.writingontarget.com/. I printed a few hard copies to sell at Kentucky Christian Writers Conference 2006, and I sold most of them. Next, I developed a quarterly newsletter called BAMW News, and I've published two so far. The next one will go out in April, 2007. I have about 60 subscribers. If you'd like to subscribe, just e-mail me akinemily@gmail.com.
I'll be teaching a workshop on BAMW for writers at the 2007 Kentucky Christian Writers Conference on June 23, 2007. See their site http://www.kychristianwriters.com/ for basic info. Details will be available on the site later this month. I'll also teach a workshop on article marketing for beginners entitled "What Are You Prepared to Do?" The proper answer is "whatever it takes."
